memorable Father's Day giftsFather's Day Gifts That Will
Be Treasured

Father's Day often has everyone scrambling at the last minute for that special gadget, whether it is the newest iPod, GPS or fishing reel. But those seeking a more personal gift might find themselves wandering the local jeweler’s cases and windows.

Today I took note while a young Dad placed his car keys on the counter while selecting his credit card for a repair pick-up. They were a mess! A tangled mass of rings hooked to each other with some kind of clip on one of the rings. He wasn’t a mess, he was nicely dressed and drove a good looking car and obviously cared about his appearance. Would someone please buy this guy a nice key chain? Did you know that most jewelers can order a key chain with his car logo on it? Don’t wait until Father’s Day and expect it to be on display, give it a week or so. Start shopping early. He will appreciate your effort. Let someone else buy the tie he’ll add to his collection.

One of my friends will be looking for a turquoise inlay money clip for her gift.  My Son-In-Law would welcome a nice neck chain or watch. In this economy people look for gifts which will be used and enjoyed rather than to waste their money on a token gift and card which might just end up in the next yard sale.

Watches can also be customized with a logo of his favorite ball club or car logo. They are usually quite affordable and again you will not find them in the jewelers show case. Your jeweler should have many reputable resources and vendors which they have carefully selected and often can place a quick call, make an inquiry and have it shipped in just a few days. Some vendors will provide custom engraving as well so that when it arrives it’s ready to be gift wrapped. Just know that engraved items cannot be returned! So you may want to place the order and see the item in the store and then have it engraved. You will need to allow more time though.

On occasion someone will remark that they can’t order from a catalog, because they need to see the item, hold it in their hand before making a choice. Folks, 17% of you buy them off the internet without holding it in your hand, yet you may not be working with a reputable company so you may have trouble returning it. Special orders don’t mean that you will pay more; unless you wait until it becomes a “Rush” order and have to request overnight shipping where you can expect to add another $25.00 or more.

So, I’ll conclude my article here with a suggestion: Start early, put a little thought into what he needs, and do your business locally. Your purchase will be appreciated by all. Have a happy Father’s Day!
